As Salaam Alaykum This question was put forward to Ala Hazrat (Allah be pleased with him): Question: Mawlana Abd al-Alim Siddiqui Meeruti (Allah be pleased with him) was present and asked the noble Imam the following question, “What was the first thing created by Allah Ta’ala?”

Answer: The Hadith al Sharif sates: Oh Jabir! Verily the very first thing Almighty Allah Ta’ala created was the Noor of your Nabi (Allah be pleased with him) from his Nur. This Hadith is narrated by Imam Abd al-Razzaq (Allah be pleased with him) in his Musannaf. Book: Al-Malfuz Al-Sharif. Page 1 Anecdotes of Imam Ahmed Raza Khan (Allah be pleased with him). Compiler: Mufti A’zam Imam Mustafa Raza (Allah be pleased with him). English Translation & Notes: Abu-Muhammad ‘Abd al-Hadi al-Qadiri. Please enlighten me more on what is meant by this Hadith & more specifically, what is meant by ‘from his Noor’?

This Hadeeth is famously referred to by the Ulema as Hadeeth-e-Jaabir (Allah be pleased with him) and it is an authentic tradition accepted by several Muhadithoon and scholars. It explains the Nooraniyat (Noori being) of the Holy Prophet (Allah be pleased with him) and it is from the evidence purporting the Ahle Sunnat wa Jamaat’s belief that Rasoolullah (Allah be pleased with him) is also Noor. Our belief as Muslims is that Allah’s (Ta’ala) being and qualities cannot be divided. The Hadeeth doesn’t mean that Allah’s (Ta’ala) Noor was divided and Rasoolullah (Allah be pleased with him) was created from it. His blessed Noor was created by Allah’s (Ta Aala) Noor like how the Rooh spirit) of Allah Ta’ala was blown into the body of Hazrat Adam (Allah be pleased with him) (Surah Saad, verse 72). Just as how Allah’s (Ta’ala) Rooh wasn’t divided from His being when it was blown into the body of Hazrat Adam (Allah be pleased with him), likewise His Noor wasn’t divided when Rasoolullah’s (peace be upon him) Noor was created.
Allah and His Rasool know best.
