Can Zakat be given with shoes that have defects?

Zakat can be paid with shoes that have defects as long as they have market value and not completely disregarded. However it is not desirable to pay one’s Zakat using articles which have defects or are of inferior quality, rather one should give out Zakat in cash if possible as this is more appropriate and more to the liking of the rightful recipients of Zakat.
