What is the ruling on burying a deceased person with his or her denture, false teeth etc. intact?
If the false teeth etc. can be removed without causing harm to the deceased’s body, then they must be removed before burial.
If the false teeth etc. are fixed in such a manner that removing or attempting to remove them causes harm to the deceased’s body, then it is permissible to bury the deceased with them intact due to the prohibition of causing harm to the deceased’s body.
Sayyiduna Rasoolullah (peace be upon him) states,
“To break a bone of the deceased’s body or to cause harm to him is akin to breaking the bone of one who is alive.”
(Abu Dawood, Part 2, pg. 104, Published by Maktaba Rahmania, Lahore)
Allama Manaawi (Allah be pleased with him) states, “The sanctity of a Muslim after death is the same as during his lifetime. Allama Ibn Hajar (Allah be pleased with him) states in Fathul Baari, “It is understood by this that the sanctity of a believer after death still remains just like his sanctity during his lifetime.’.”
(Faidul Qadeer, Vol6, pg. 231-2, Published by Darul Hadeeth, Cairo)
The Mujaddid of Islam, Allamah Sayed Ibn Abideen Shaami (Allah be pleased with him) states, “A deceased also experiences harm from whatever a person alive suffers as harm.”
(Fataawa Razvia, Vol. 9, pg. 44 with reference to Raddul Muhtaar, published by Raza Foundation, Lahore)
Aala Hazrat Imaam Ahmed Raza Khan Barailwi (Allah be pleased with him) states, “The Ulema are agreed that the honour of a Muslim – living or deceased – is the same.”
(Fataawa Razvia, Vol. 9, pg. 44, published by Raza Foundation, Lahore)
And Allah and His Rasool know best.
