Does clipping nails and cutting hair during the first ten days of Zhul Hijjah nullify the obligation of Qurbaani?
It is Mustahab (desirable act) upon one whom Qurbaani is Waajib (obligatory) to not clip their nails and to not cut their hair during the first ten days of Zhul Hijjah. The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) has stated,
“When the ten days (of Zhul Hijjah) begin and a person has an animal for sacrifice which he intends to slaughter, then let him not cut his hair or trim his nails.” (Sahih Muslim)
Imaam Mulla Ali Qari (Allah be pleased with him) writes in Mirqaatul Mafaateeh,
“Imaam-e-Azam Abu Hanifa (Allah be pleased with him) has ruled that it is allowed for one to clip nails and cut hair during the first ten days of Zhul Hijjah and has regarded the prohibition in the Ahadith as Makrooh-e-Tanzihi.”
(Sharah Sahih Muslim, Vol. 6, pg. 175)
Hence if one on whom Qurbaani is Waajib does clip his nails etc. in the first ten days of Zhul Hijjah, he is still obligated to make Qurbaani and doing so does not nullify the Qurbaani.
Allah and His Rasool know best.
