Can a husband give Ghusl, see the face and carry the Janaazah of his deceased wife?
Yes, a husband can see the face and carry the Janaazah of his deceased wife. He is not allowed to give Ghusl to his deceased wife. It is mentioned in Durrul Mukhtaar,
و يمنع زوجها من غسلها و مسها لا من النظر اليها على الاصح
“The husband is forbidden to touch and give Ghusl to his deceased wife. However, he is not prohibited to see her.”
(Kitaabus Salaah, Baaabu Salaatil Janaaiz, Vol. 1, pg. 120)
Allama Sadrush Shariah (Allah be pleased with him) states,
“A common misunderstanding amongst the general masses is that a husband cannot carry his deceased wife’s Janaazah, lower her body in the grave or see her face. This is totally incorrect, he is only forbidden to directly touch her body including Ghusl, without a barrier.”
(Bahaar e Shariah, Part 4, pg. 813)
