بِسْمِ ٱللّٰهِ ٱلرَّحْمٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
Was Salaatul Janaazah performed for Sayyidah Khadijatul Kubra (Allah be pleased with her)?
Whilst Ummul Mu’mineen Sayyidah Khadijatul Kubra (Allah be pleased with her) passed away in Makkah Shareef during the 10th year of Prophethood, Salaatul Janaazah was instituted later in Madinah Shareef, in the year 1.A.H. Salaatul Janaazah was not performed for her as it was not Mashr’oo (instituted in the Shariah) at the time of her demise.
Allamah Zarqaani (Allah be pleased with him) records the following narration,
“Hadhrath Hakeem ibn Hizaam (Allah be pleased with him) (the nephew of Sayyidah Khadijah (Allah be pleased with her)) states that Sayyidah Khadijah (Allah be pleased with her) was buried in Hujoon. Rasoolullah (peace be upon him) entered her grave (to place her body) and she was 65 years old at the time of her demise. Salaatul Janaazah was not instituted at that time.”

Allamah Ibn Hajar Asqalaani (Allah be pleased with him) records the following,
“Baghawi has said that the first person to pass away from the Sahaaba (Allah be pleased with them) after the Hijrah was Hadhrath As’ad ibn Zuraarah (Allah be pleased with him). He was also the first person for whom Rasoolullah (peace be upon him) performed Salaatul Janaazah.”

Hadhrath As’ad ibn Zuraarah (Allah be pleased with him) passed away in 1.A.H., thus it is proven that Salaatul Janaazah was only Mashr’oo from then.
Aala Hadhrath Imaam Ahmed Raza Khan Barailwi (Allah be pleased with him) states, “Ulama have accurately written in books of history and biographies that Salaatul Janaazah was not performed for Ummul Mu’mineen Sayyidah Khadijatul Kubra (Allah be pleased with her) as it was not emplaced in that time. The command of Salaatul Janaazah was given after.”
