Can Aqeeqah be done on Ayyaam-un-Nahr (the 10th 11th and 12th of Zhul-Hijjah) instead of Qurbani? If one makes Aqeeqah on these days, must it be done before or after Qurbani?
Qurbani is Waajib (obligatory) upon a Muslim who is Saahib-e-Nisaab, Muqeem etc. during Ayyaam-un-Nahr.
The Hanafi Mazhab rules that Aqeeqah is Mustahab (preferable).
Thus, it is impermissible for a person on whom Qurbani is Waajib to forsake it and instead make Aqeeqah which is Mustahab.
Aqeeqah can be made during Ayyaam-un-Nahr. However, if a person wishes to make Qurbani and Aqeeqah during Ayyaam-un-Nahr, he or she must complete the obligatory Qurbani and then do Aqeeqah or any other Nafl (optional) Qurbani.
Therefore, Aqeeqah must be made after the obligatory Qurbani is fulfilled during Ayyaam-un-Nahr.
Allah and His Rasool know best.
