Can you give the Islamic views with regards to keeping of dogs as pets and can they touch you? As guard dogs and can they touch you? Then why are cats okay?
Islamic traditions narrate that the dog was created from the saliva of Shaitaan and it is an abhorred animal for this reason. Yes, the Shariah allows dogs to be kept as guards over property and farms but they are not allowed to enter the homes of Muslims. The saliva of a dog is impure as well as its outer skin when it is wet. Therefore, if it’s saliva or wet skin touches the clothing or body of a Muslim, it will be necessary to cleanse oneself from the impurity as per the amount of contact. If the dog is dry, still too there remains a certain amount of natural repugnance about contact with it. Cats were animals kept in homes and cared for by the Sahaaba (radhiyallahu anhu) as well as the Holy Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) and there is no Islamic tradition censoring the keeping of cats in the home or as pets.
Allah and His Rasool know best.
